In my personal opinion Egeus was wrong to send his daughter to deathjust because she fell in love with another man and does not want tomarry the man that he chose for her. Everyone in life should have theopportunity to make their own choices, especially life changingdecisions. I can understand Egeus, he feels betrayed by his owndaughter, the daughter he gave life to, why shouldn't he be the one toset her on the right track? Does her not deserve the choice of who sheis to marry for he is the one that made her who she is today?Although Egeus's point is quiet strong and most certainly in that era,Thesus has his uncertainties too. I think that deep down he too feelsthat it was wrong to have an arranged marriage planned when she lovedanother man. For he too has a love in his life, one that is now all themore upset with him for sentencing Hermia so harshly. That night Lysander Attempts too rescue her knowing that if he were tobe caught he would suffer a great amount at the hands of Egeus. But it seems that Lysander willstop at nothing to be with his love till the end.Of course you have to take it into consideration, what would havehappened if Hermia married like planned and just went along witheverything her father had asked? She most likely would have fell into aworld of misery and lies. She would be lying to herself for she knowsthat she will never love that man. A terrible life indeed, but is deathany better? Should she run away with Lysander and always be on thelookout for her father? Is there really a chance of escape or do theyalready know that this would happen?Overall Egeus is just a cruel old man that apparently doesn't care ifhis own kin were to go off and die. People like...
