Much of modern entertainment has to do with violence, but how does this consumption of aggression affect people? Does viewing fictional violence encourage real violence? After much viewing of the topic by multiple perspectives, the answer is most likely that it does not. Society often glorifies and promotes violence in works of fiction but in reality highly discourages it. The following information is gathered from multiple sources on the effects of violent media.In the entertainment industry no other medium is as criticized for its violent content as video games. Video games are judged as an interactive medium in which the user can commit hostile acts towards others. Debate of if this encourages violence is ongoing. Some say that they teach young people how to use guns and desensitizes them to actual violence. However most research shows that in most people it does not. Also only an extremely small percentage of people who play video games actually exhibit violent tendencies as a result millions of gamers play violent video games, and only an extremely small percentage of violent acts can be tied to video games(Collier 107). While video games are not of harm to the general public, censorship is. Censoring things has been common practice for as long as there have been things to censor. Doing so is always a detriment to society as a result. Fair use exists to prevent censorship of work yet most are too afraid to use it due to lawsuits and Because of this attitude, many films are never made, and many others, even if made, are never distributed(Lohmann 128). Stopping expression is against the freedoms of the people who make the entertainment being censored and the people.Movies have come under fire for their use of violence as a spectacle for many years.
