Chebyshevs Theorem Chebyshevs Theorem is used to analyze the distributions from a standard deviation. The standard deviation tells us the spread of the data around the mean. It applies to theorem because it tells us what the minimum percentage of data falls between the mean and any of the standard deviation numbers on either side of the mean. Chebyshevs Theorem states that for any data set the percentage of the data is supposed to be within the k standard deviations on any side of the mean, and the mathematical equation for that is 1- 1 k 2.This theorem works no matter what the distribution of data is, it will even work with skewed data, which is what makes the theorem so significant. For any data, there will be the same basic results a minimum of 75 of the data will fall 2 standard deviations from the mean, at least 88.9 is going to fall 3 standard deviations from the mean, and a minimum of 93.8 of the data is 4 standard deviations from the mean. A mound-shaped distribution has a greater percentage that falls into specific intervals. Chebyshevs Theorem is used in statistics and statistics can be seen every day. There are statistics about everything including butterflies and the orbit of the planets. If you were to do an investigation on the wingspan of butterflies, you could find the mean and standard deviation and then use Chebyshevs Theorem to understand the distribution of your information better. So Chebyshevs theorem could actually be used for butterflies and the orbit of planets in the right context....
