Islam is a monotheistic religion characterized by the acceptance of the doctrine of submission to God and to Muhammad as the chief and last prophet of God. In order to be a Muslim one must have faith in one God known as Allah who is the all-powerful creator of a perfect ordered universe, faith in the angles of God, faith in the holy book of God known as the Quran, faith in the prophets of God such as Muhammad who is the founder of Islam and known as the Seal of the Prophets which means the last and greatest messengers of God, and faith in the day of judgment (or the afterlife) for example they believe that on the day of judgment all humans will be admitted and rewarded to go to paradise or punished and go to hell, and faith in the supremacy of Gods will. Muslims also practice the five acts of worship called the Five Pillars of Islam. The Five Pillars of Islam are confession of faith (shahada), ritual prayer (salat), and almsgiving (zakat), fasting during the month of Ramadan (sawm), and pilgrimage to mecca (hajj). In Islam there are many food taboos that exist. In the Islam custom there are two types of food, Halal foods are lawful and safe to be eaten. The other type of food is Haram, which is unclean and therefore unlawful and forbidden to eat. Pork is not only a food taboo to Muslims it is also a taboo to other religious groups as well because pigs carry multitudes of sickness-causing parasites and therefore is considered unclean. In order for meat from a cow, sheep, goat, etc. to be considered halal the animal must be slaughtered by a Muslim at the throat with a sharp knife so the animal does not suffer. The person slaughtering the animal is also required to pronounce the name Allah. Muslims also are not able to drink or have food...
