Nutrition is a fundamental contributor to the proper growth and overall health of a canine. Yet with all the dog food options available it is still very difficult to determine which option is the best. There are two main categories or diets, a raw based diet or a kibble based diet. Each of these has their own benefits and disadvantages, and they can both drastically affect the growth and health of any dog. Meeting the nutrition requirements for the specific dog is crucial when choosing a type of diet to feed.Nutrition for a puppy is crucial because it is growing and requires proper nutrients in order to grow properly. Diet can have a huge impact on the overall health and growth rate of a puppy. Although genetics does limit the growth of a dog, without proper diet it cannot reach its potential growth rate. If feeding poor quality food or an imbalanced ratio of nutrients it can have a negative effect on the development and growth of the dog. There are 10 essential amino acids needed for dogs in their diet. These can be obtained from meat and plant sources (VMRCVM, 2013) Meat proteins tend to have a higher biological value than those obtained from vegetables (VMRCVM, 2013) Protein is crucial for proper muscle strength, bone strength, and making new cells in the body. The digestibility of the protein is important for proper utilization of the nutrients and growth. The higher the digestibility the more efficient the growth will be. Carbohydrates are important because if they are not supplied then the protein will start to be converted into glucose in order to obtain energy, and this will have an effect on the growth of the body and body tissues since the protein is needed throughout the body. (VMRCVM, 2013) Too many carbohydrates in the body can lead to obesity this leads to joint problems, bone problems, organ function problems, and possibly even death (VMRCVM, 2013)....
