This paper investigates the major theoretical insights around language acquisition Behaviorism, Innateism, and Social Interactionism. Each theory has it is own view of first language (L1) and second language (L2) acquisition. This paper is organized as follow it provides a brief explanation of each theory, its design and procedure, and analysis of the weaknesses. Then, a brief definition of many issues in second language acquisition is discussed. At the end of the paper is a section called My Theory, which is a personal theoretical point of view that may inform a subjective future practice in teaching second language. The build of this theory is based mainly on the analysis of the weaknesses of each theory, the extraction and application of the strengths, and personal experiences.At first, it is important to know the meaning of four concepts in applied linguistics method, approach, design, and procedure. According to Richard and Rodgers, the last three are the three levels that define the method or methodology that a teacher or learner uses to teach or learn a language in general. Any language learning or teaching process consists all these three. The procedure represents the techniques and strategies that a teacher or learner uses in the classroom or in his life to learn a certain language. The design means what is the learner or the teacher objectives the role of the teacher, learner, or teaching materials. Finally, the approach is what the learner or the teachers philosophy and theory in acquiring a language (153). Simply, the theory forms the design and the practice which they all represents the method. Design is what is the role of everything in the learning or teaching process, the procedure is how each role is practiced to learn or teach a language, and finally theory is why heshe believes the language must be taught or learned in this particular design and procedure.
