Picture spending an entire summer in a hospital bed. Imagine learning to walk for a second time. Doesnt sound like fun right? Well this is what I experienced the summer I turned 13. I had just finished 7th grade and was looking forward to a great summer with my best friend Maddie. Everything changed when I broke both of my ankles while trying to help my cousins open a pool. I spent the rest of the summer with two casts, one that covered my entire knee. It was a long recovery, and even today I still have difficulty with my legs sometimes. Overall, from this experience I learned that I am not invincible. I learned that I need to be careful with myself because my body is much more fragile than I think. It all started when my cousins called me and asked me to come over. Nikki said Angelina, were house-sitting for our friends for the weekend, why dont you and Maddie come spend the night! It will be so much fun and we can open the pool and swim all day tomorrow! Maddie and I decided that it would be fun to hang out with my older cousins and go swimming the next day. They drove to pick us up and the night of fun with my cousins began. Their friends house was bigger than any I had seen. The house had so many rooms. They even had a room with a hot tub and a mini bar. I noticed the large pool in backyard just waiting to be filled with water. We spent our time watching movies, pigging out, and playing Dance Dance Revolution (a game I would not be playing again for a while) Maddie and I had so much fun and went to bed late that night.
