Remember when the world was segregated? Remember when there were segregated bathrooms, water fountains, schools and restaurants? Why did that end? It ended because people realised that not allowing people do certain things because of their skin color was outrageous. What few people know is that it is happening again. Thousands of pit bull terriers are euthanized every year because of their name. That is like saying we should arrest execute that guy because he is from Mexico. Some people say that they are just dogs who cares? Well, according to the American Humane Association, there are more pets in U.S. households than kids, we spend more on pet food than we do baby food, there are more dogs in the U.S. than people and last, but most startling, a child growing up in the U.S. is more likely to have a pet than a live-at-home father. You cant say that they are just dogs. In 2012 there were 38 fatal dog attacks in the U.S. Pit Bulls accounted for 23 of those. That is a startling statistic. However you have to look a little further into each attack to automatically call pit bulls dangerous. More than 5 of the mauling occurred on the dogs property. For all the dog knows the person is coming to hurt them. Also 15 of the total 38 attacks were children under two years of age. Now we all know that dogs have chew toys and many of those toys are most likely the size of a small child. So we are euthanizing dogs for wanting to play? That is ridiculous! A recent article by Courtney Pomeroy states, When an attack involves pit bulls, it is no longer necessary to prove that the particular pit bull or pit bulls are dangerous...unlike in cases involving other dog breeds, prior violent behavior does not have to be proved by plaintiffs for the owner of a pit bull to...
