IntroductionWith this study we aim to analyze the slang translation from English into Romanian in Samuel Becketts play Waiting for Godot. It is very well known that when we speak about any translation, especially literary texts, the translators work is very important because it has the power to emphasize the value of the text or on the contrary, it can change or sometimes ruin the true meaning of the original text. Over the centuries the role of the translator was and still is very important because the translators work can allow people transcend the limits of their knowledge and be able to understand other cultures through the work of writers. We could consider translations to be the gates that allow us to perceive the real spirit of other countries and to look at it as something more than just some distant lands or territories marked by borders on a map. In order to define in the right terms what is translation, over the history, many studies have shown that we can define it in many ways due to the fact that translating a literary text it is a very complex linguistic procedure. Some linguists have offered a general definition to translation according to which translation focuses on rendering the meaning of the source text in the target text by finding the proper equivalent. However, to define translation as being only the process of translating texts from a language to another language is to diminish the importance of what the work of a translator involves.
