Many historical mathematicians and or philosophers contributed several of great discoveries that benefited society and helped it grow into a stronger and more knowledgeable generation. These achievements are what made these made historical figures stand out and become known it is important to not forget why we need the concepts that they discovered. For example, Pythagoras discovered many concepts that have been used for many years (understatement of the year), and still continue to be used by some of the worlds greatest mathematicians. Pythagoras had many contributions to the history of math and many of them have docked their way into the foundation of math itself noted that his greatest contributions are his discovery and use of irrational numbers, his own theorem called the Pythagorean Theorem, and his discovery of the relationship and correlation of music and math. The exploration of why these discoveries are needed and still used today can help express why Pythagorass contribution to society left and continues to leave such an everlasting impact. Irrational numbers are very important to math for many reasons they are needed for many situations in order to complete the operations. It is said that Pythagoras didnt really discover irrational numbers, but simply added on to the idea of them. The development of algebra is what instituted the idea of irrational numbers, therefore serving as the base of it all. If irrational numbers did not exist, many values would appear completely absurd and generally Pi itself would not be able to be used either. It is the idea that irrational numbers serve the purpose of implementing numbers between 1 and 0.The Pythagorean Theorem stated that a2 b2 c2. This theory has helped society in for many years.
