I found it really interesting when Firoozch talks about the linguistic nature of America mostly regarding how America lacks the kh sound that is prominent in her culture. Ive never taken a step back and realized that we dont really make use of this in our language. I also found it interesting that she mentions how our language roots for monosyllabic names, including the act of shortening names for example, it is common to shorten William to Bill, and I for one have overseen this common tactic in our culture. Although I do sympathize with her, I dont understand why she cared so much about what people thought of her name. Although it started when she was just a young teenager, she didnt gain that courage to not care until she was a stay at home mother. I feel like this was a big hindrance in her life and didnt allow her to life to the fullest. To allow what people think, to the point of changing your name, I couldnt imagine that. On the other end, I do understand her frustrations with having a foreign name in a country full of people that either cant pronounce your name, or make an attempt to learn how to pronounce it. I thought it was a shame that she only received interviews back when she put her American name on the resume. I think this says a lot about our culture our culture is afraid of adding new concepts to our existing culture. Although, it could be like she said, and it could be a complete coincidence that she started getting calls back....
