The goal of the research is for teachers to have a better understandingon how to differentiate mathematics instruction for gifted learners. There are many questions and unknowns that come when something new ispresented to a group of people. Many teachers and districts have beenasking these questions as Common Core State Standards are now beingimplemented. Once implementation is begun, districts and teachers needto be able to take the standards and develop a program that meets theneeds of their students. This paper is a continuation of thatconversation and addresses the need to work towards best practice inmathematics for a special population. Gifted learners are in need ofprograms and curriculum that is engaging. How do to teachers make mathengaging for students k-12 using CCSS? Should gifted teachers use theAcceleration Model or the Enrichment Model? Should we develop a morecomprehensive program that encompasses a variety of subjects and contentareas? It is my hope that this paper will raise questions aboutdevelopment of curriculum for gifted learners. Also, I want tocontribute to the change and shift to CCSS, so that gifted students havea program that meets their needs for the future. Keywords Common Core State Standards, Enrichment Model, AccelerationModel, gifted learners, differentiate, Sarcasm is a form of calling attention to the obvious. Education isnever changing and things all remain constant. Obviously the previousstatement is not true. Gifted education, being the focus of thiscourse, is constantly changing and being tweaked year in and year out.The evidence that education is changing is that 45 states to date haveadopted the Common Core State Standards. Specifically, this will ringtrue in the state of Louisiana as Common Core State Standards begin tobe used across all curriculum. Learning communities will need to adjustand monitor how effective teachers deliver this content. Educators needto reflect and adjust their deliveries of curriculum to all studentpopulations. The Common Core State Standards for mathematics will needto be under a microscope for...
