Writing a Mexican Culture Essay

Mexico is a country that is a whole lot different in comparison to the United States. Its residents are the adepts of some truly original customs when it comes to family. Convictions, prospects, frameworks of personal and social behavior are incredibly distinctive and held in high esteem by the majority of Mexicans. Someone who lives in Mexico would probably regard you as an alien. Mexicans are particularly famous for their eagerness in preserving connections in large families as well as different types of relationships. This is all because they place a very high value on family life. In Mexico, the behavior within the family is governed by some exceptionally old ground rules that involve attributing tasks to distinct members of the family, in accordance with their gender. The man’s function is that of sheltering and safeguarding his spouse as well as the rest of his family. On the other hand, a female member of the family controls the household by dealing with the entirety of domestic errands. Infidelity is seen as a societal standard for men. Whether psychological or corporeal, mistreatment is something that occurs frequently. In the majority of cases, women are expected to endure the behavior of their husbands, and a lot of them even consider it adequate. The wife is generally assigned the duty of preserving the homestead and raising the kids. Mexican children often admire their mothers, while being terrified of their tyrannical fathers. Young girls are kept under strict control and constant supervision from the parents as well as different relatives until they become wives. Children frequently stay at home with their family until the day when they form a family of their own. The same is true even if people in question marry at a very mature age. The different branches of the family stay tightly connected. Usually, grandparents, uncles, and children end up living in the same house or the same neighborhood. The reality of today shows that, with the expansion of the 21st-century culture, this lifestyle is becoming unusual, which is why fewer and fewer Mexicans stick to it. Mexico is being more and more shaped by different civilizations, such as the United States. The American civilization keeps on modeling the Mexican lifestyle and deteriorating the long-established customs, which are nowadays seen as obsolete. Throughout the last couple of decades, the stereotypes mentioned above have started to die away - quite notably. Husbands exhibit the features of aggressive masculinity, bragging with arrogance and self-regard in front of their spouses and children. The lifestyle associated with the Mexican family is illustrated by the various endeavors that the males take part in. Taking into consideration a large number of culturally significant events that are organized in Mexico every year, we can grasp the way in which these people often gather as families. Mexicans are somewhat pious, and they organize important religious events all over the year. During such events, people meet as families and have a great time together. In a swiftly paced lifestyle, Mexican people appear to be more resistant in terms of viewpoints. This can be proven by studying the manner in which they do everything. One of the reasons for such resilience is that the entire Mexican society is united by familial relationships, convictions, and customs.
Mexicans are famous for their friendliness, which makes them stand out among other people. If you wander the streets of Mexico, you may come across a stranger who may be nicer to you than your own family. Mexicans seem to look after other people with affection, respect and thoughtfulness. Provided that you are polite towards their civilization, they will be extremely hospitable, and they will give you the best things they can give. An aspect that is extremely important is the swap of appropriate greetings at social gatherings. The gesture of shaking one’s hand is a must when it comes to greeting customs. Before attempting to talk about anything else, it is recommended to greet the other people and shake hands. When coming across a group of people, it is advisable to approach every single person separately instead of addressing the group as a whole, which is thought to denote both indolence and discourtesy (Natella 108). For Mexicans, family is always in the first place, as opposed to the customs of the United States, where people don’t seem to place such a high value on relative bonds. In the Mexican civilization, kids are respected and favored, while in the United States they are offered a negligible upbringing as well as a high degree of independence. In Mexico, the primary function of women is inside the family. On the other hand, in North America, the wife is frequently responsible for more than just one function. Freedom of movement is more supervised in Mexico, while in the US it is regarded as worldly. As opposed to the United States' culture and traditions, where people like to boast about their financial supremacy, the people of Mexico still hold community in high regard, whether in towns, educational institutions, or other organizations. A significant component of the Mexican culture is the expectation of working together and interacting with one another. This, of course, comes from the powerful connections established within a family. Even police officers who don’t occupy a high position in the official hierarchy easily take bribes from individuals who want to avoid spending time in jail. On the other hand, in the US, this sort of conduct is highly intolerable (Natella 126). Regarding similarities between these two civilizations, both in the US and in Mexico, the family has the function of nurturing, interacting and creating a personal character. The way in which a person acts and their evolution throughout the several phases of their lives is influenced by their family life. In both cultures, a family has the purpose of nurturing and safeguarding kids as well as senior or sick members of the family. In the majority of situations, kids are closer or reliant on their immediate family, namely their mother, father and brothers or sisters, rather than the other, more distant relatives. People who have the opportunity of being raised in an adequate family with useful connections almost always lead a more joyful life. As such, the importance of family ties cannot be denied, as it generates positive psychological resources for a happier life and helps to prevent potentially dangerous situations. Moreover, an adequate family life also aids children in establishing life goals. The function of the family is also pivotal because the early years we spend with our family members exert the most notable influence on our personality. The way a mother raises her kids is a factor that determines their future life as mature adults (Samovar, Porter & McDaniel 55).
As opposed to Mexico, the family unit in the US stimulates self-determination and diminishes the blood ties. The term of a family unit is used to refer to the nuclear family, which is usually a small one. Americans are thrilled with their individual achievements, originality, and prosperity, and refuse to share such assets with their relatives. The American civilization is made of several distinctive subcultures. This happens because US culture is based on customs, principles, behaviors, convictions, moral codes, arts as well as modernization. These assets originate both regionally and from colonization by people who came from different countries and, consequently, cultures. (Abazov 184). Such blend of customs and traditions might imply the function of family life in several civilizations mixed together. Intensified family modernization has greatly obscured family roles in distinct cultures. Therefore, the function of the family in different civilizations is undergoing redefinition. For instance, today the former function of a wife being a stay-at-home mother has evolved into pursuing official education and employment (Wheatley 23). Virtually every culture has recognized social structure and principles regarding the adequate functions of every family member. However, it does not mean that every culture attributes the same family roles to the same people. For instance, the majority of females in nearly all societies nowadays dispute a woman’s position as a housewife and believe that women should work and study rather than simply take care of the household chores.
